Summer Reading

Electronic readers are a boon to the vacation-bound.  No more do you have to pour through bookstores and your shelves at home to create the right mix of fun and seriousness to take with you to the beach or the mountains. Finish a book? Zap!  Get another one!

I still like the dead-tree books…sorry.  An e-reader is just not going to compete with a steamy story with a gorgeous hunk on the cover.

But the e-books do have another few advantages that may make me change my mind…
  • I can carry more books and pay less to airlines, my chiropractor, my massage therapist, the podiatrist….
  • I don’t have to answer stupid people who don’t understand why we read romance.
  • I can read “50 Shades of Grey” and not be asked what I think about the book.
  • Crossing and re-crossing my legs when I’m reading a really juicy bit can be explained away by restlessness as I try to understand the theories of Stephen Hawking.
  • I can use my bookshelves for my quilting stash.
  • It’s easier to get food stains off an e-reader.

Why do you think e-books are better for summer vacation?  Leave a comment below!

I like the...I can take as many books as I want! I never know what book to take when I travel. I always end up shoving three or four into my carry on and then cringing because I have to carry it!!

With an e-reader, I can take them ALL!!

Happy Reading,
Rionna

Casey,

Loved your 'crossing and recrossing the legs'! I read a friend's new eromance on my Kindle on the plane to Hawaii this spring. I was so rattled by the extreme hotness of the story's romantic encounters that I kept holding the Kindle closer to my chest, with my eyes getting wider!

I forgot I could use the Kindle cover like a book cover, and hide what I was reading from the passengers on both sides of me--both of whom were close enough to read the words.

The author got a great laugh out of my being so flustered.

I love to shove my Kindle in my purse when I travel along with my baby Acer, instead of carrying a pile of fat romance books. I read very quickly, so I can read a lot on a long car ride or plane ride.

But I agree, paper is better in some ways, like paging back to that favorite scene. I haven't quite mastered leaving Kindle bookmarks--I'll make that one of my many summer goals.

best,
Cathryn

So funny, Casey, the crossing of legs... those were the days!! Another plus to living in the age of social networking behind the curtain!

It will be interesting to find out what we all read by end of summer. Thanks for the comments, ladies!
