Great writing minds meet in Missoula

We met, we ate, we drank wine. There was much laughing and sharing and talking about sundry matters having nothing to do with writing.

Then we got down to business. We brainstormed a title for one member, talked about where to place a manuscript that had been written for a line that no longer exists, brainstormed killing methods for a mystery (did you know that rhododendrons stems are extremely poisonous), considered a creation myth prologue for a paranormal, tested an alternate opening and changed four-inch stilettos for five-inch stilettos.

Whew! It was a good five hours of solid work (really--ignore all the giggling, we were working!) And it was great fun (note previously mentioned giggling).

Ah, the joy of just hanging out with other writers!

Working with other writers is an awesome experience. First of all, we "get" each other even in different genres. And we know not to call the police when a mystery author is plotting a murder, lol.

The little bits of expertise each person brings to the table (after eating, of course) enriches everyone's imagination and believability in their character worlds for the reader.

For having been blessed to be part a bunch of hard working writers, thank you! Montana Romance Writers inspire me to grow, learn and to keep writing!

Fun - isn't that the goal of every writer? To work our butts off at something we love - and have fun doing it? The giggling, plotting murder together, and all the other fun stuff is just payback for the endless hours spent by ourselves. I've missed my writing buddies these past 5 years since I moved to Montana and am truly grateful to have acquired more in our new Chapter. Thank you, ladies.

Yup. I think fun is important for writers. When our minds are at play we get really creative.

And brainstorming together took our imaginations further than we'd probably have gone on our own.

Even by phone the laughter was contagious. I'm sorry I missed the ice cream. And plotting murder is my favorite thing in the world. Seriously! Besides looking at the cover of Teresa's books. Mercy!!! Is right.
